It's Supposed to Be a Vase

I was inspired by Tonya's bottles on her last post. I thought maybe I could free piece a vase and some flowers. Here's the vase (I think it looks a bit more like a lava lamp), but it's a start. I read the free piecing basics over and over. I think I'm on the right track. Maybe?

I made these wonky log cabin blocks for the flowers. I'm lost here. Is it possible to free piece these in with the stems? I can't seem to get a drawing to work. This was a lot harder than I thought. Any ideas on how to keep going?

sorry had problems with my keyboard in the first comment....

I love the vase. i think with flowers you'll know exactly what its to be...

Have you tried adding background fabric on either side of the stem; and background fabric on either side of the log cabin block, then joining the two sections? if you do this for each "flower" then each can be trimmed down along the side when you add the next I think...

You've got a great start. I agree with Pixie -- treat each flower as a separate unit and then join them, adding or subtracting as you need to. good luck!

this helps. thanks for the suggestion...i think part of the struggle i was having is that i made the mouth of the vase too little. the two stems join like a v to get them both in. maybe if i make that v section separately it might help?
